Spring Staff and Graduate Student Awards

Piping PloverNET Grant Helps UNL Conservation Efforts For Least Terns and Piping Plovers

A three-year grant totaling $270,000 from the Nebraska Environmental Trust will help the UNL further its conservation efforts for federally endangered Interior Least Terns and threatened Piping Plovers (more).


Annual Water Tour Visits Republican River Basin in June

An early June water and natural resources tour will visit the lower Republican River basin in Kansas and Nebraska to help answer water use questions in the basin (more).

SNR and Columbian Center for Biological Research Explore Partnership Possibilities

SNR and the Corporacion Para Investigaciones Biologicas in Medellin, Colombia, have exchanged teams of visitors to explore partnership opportunities. Each institution has different strengths. Colombia’s geography offers Andean mountain forests, part of the Amazon rainforest, and coral reefs, in contrast to Nebraska’s prairies (more).

A Celebration of Brian Smith's Life

SNR faculty, staff and students gathered April 22 on the north side of Hardin Hall with Brian Smith's family to dedicate the memorial tree and two bird feeding stations. The school also presented a dedication plaque to his family.

A celebration of Brian Smith's life took place on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, on the north side of Hardin Hall, East Campus, UNL. The event included a tree planting ceremony and bird feeder dedication (more).

Researchers at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and from Oklahoma State University have joined to test promising new methods of removing longstanding groundwater contamination at the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant near Mead (more).
